Station and river observations

METAR/SPECI uses the existing AviationWeather.gov bulk cache over the lower 48 and its margin. NWPS retains only gauges in the existing action-stage-or-above observed list; forecast-only gauges can have no observation. Absence never establishes zero wind, low water, or safe conditions.

NWS gauge impact statements
  • 10.44 ft: (Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW)) The level reached on October 29, 2012 during Post Tropical Cyclone Sandy.
  • 10.01 ft: (MLLW) The level reached on November 25, 1950.
  • 9.6 ft: (MLLW) MAJOR FLOODING. At this level, flooding starts to become severe enough to begin causing structural damage along with widespread flooding of roadways near the bay in Downe Township, Commercial Township and Maurice River Township. Vulnerable homes and businesses may be severely damaged as water levels rise above this threshold. Numerous roads become impassable and some neighborhoods may be isolated. The flood waters become a danger to anyone who attempts to cross on foot or in a vehicle.
  • 8.6 ft: (MLLW) MODERATE FLOODING. At this level, widespread flooding of roadways begins with many roads becoming impassable near the bay in Downe Township, Commercial Township and Maurice River Township. Lives may be at risk when people put themselves in harm's way. Some damage to vulnerable structures may begin to occur. COASTAL FLOOD WARNING LEVEL.
  • 8.4 ft: (MLLW) Flooding begins at Dividing Creek. Flooding begins in Mauricetown (including along Cumberland County Routes 670 and 744) and in Port Norris.
  • 8 ft: (MLLW) Flooding begins along Landing Road and along Newport Neck Road in Downe Township. Flooding begins in Fortescue and in Maurice River Township.

Capture times, quality and provenance

Each report keeps its observation time, first capture of this version, and the SHA-256 of the source bulk body. Corrections at the same observation time replace that point and are marked; unrelated bulk-file changes do not freshen a report.

Only observed gauge records enter this history. Forecast maxima and forecast hydrograph points never become observations. A missing datum or unsupported flow value remains unknown.
