FAA Data Outage

Issued (1443Z MON JUL 27 2026) · by Green, on duty as SDM

Notices & outages ...FAA DATA OUTAGE...

NWS is reporting a problem affecting FAA, NCO, METAR and PIREP. Some data may be missing, delayed or slow until it is fixed.

The message says NWS is actively working the issue, so this is a live situation rather than a closed one.

FAA is the Federal Aviation Administration, which exchanges aviation weather data with NWS, NCO is NWS Central Operations, which runs the computing behind the forecast models, METAR is routine hourly airport surface weather reports and PIREP is pilot reports of conditions aloft.

For most people this is invisible — forecasts keep coming. It matters most to anyone pulling NWS data directly, and to forecasters who lean on the affected feed.

...FAA DATA OUTAGE...

NWS/NCO data connections with the FAA were lost following
a failover of the Sockets application to BLDR at around 1340Z.
Aviation datasets including METAR, PIREP and international SIGMETs
are partially unavailable. NCO is working with the FAA to restore
the
connections and dataflow.
